Visit the Museum during the national Festival of Archaeology! Our 2017 day will focus on the Saxon period.

Find out about the construction of the Saxon building, the research behind it, stories from Anglo-Saxon times and take part in some simple craft activities.

All talks and activities are subject to change but we plan to include the following.

On Saturday hear short talks including:

The archaeology behind the construction of our Anglo-Saxon building
How we built our Anglo-Saxon building
Listen to Old English with Stephen Pollington
Saxon textiles and clothing
Wattle and daub in the construction of our Anglo-Saxon building
Everyday life in Saxon England
On Sunday:

The archaeology behind the construction of our Anglo-Saxon building
How we built our Anglo-Saxon building
Viking raids in Saxon Sussex
Music as a part of everyday Saxon life
Nearby the Anglo-Saxon building, young people can make a simply Saxon pot to take home.

In the wider Museum site, 10-minute talks include: meet the millers, chat to the stables team and find out about our two new projects (a dairy and a bakehouse). Pick up a leaflet upon arrival and start exploring!

Information for visitors

The Museum will open at 10.30am and close at 5.30pm. Regular Museum entry charges apply. Entry is free for Annual Members.
